Innovation in the evolving marketplaceDisruptive Technology Channels | |||||||||
Disruptive Technology Channels is a UK-based distributor of consumer electronics products and digital accessories. The company was formed in early 2004 by Tom Dudderidge, a veteran of technology sales and marketing, with a team experienced at both management and board level. In April 2004, Disruptive launched PodGear, which quickly became Europes number one iPod accessory brand. By the end of 2005 PodGear was stocked in many of the UKs leading high street retailers: Dixons, HMV, Toys R Us, Boots and Carphone Warehouse and had a strong web presence with retailers such as Amazon.co.uk. In recognition of the exceptional growth the company had witnessed, it was awarded the HSBC Start Up Stars award in October 2005. In January 2006 Disruptive took the bold move of re-branding from PodGear to GEAR4. The name change enabled other digital accessories to be sold alongside the massively successful iPod collection, all under the same brand name. To continue the growth of the company, GEAR4 launched into Australia in March 2006. Disruptive director Jamie Dudderidge moved to Australia in early 2006 to set up the infrastructure to mirror the UK business in the second largest iPod market after the US. In addition to GEAR4, Disruptive also distributes a number of third party brands into the UK and Europe e.g. Solio, iDeck and Artwizz.
